About

Associate Professor Dr Jessie Anne de Bruyne is a paediatric respiratory specialist whose work spans both academic medicine and hands-on clinical service. Her medical degree, an MBChB, was earned at the University of Sheffield Medical School (UK), where she received Distinction in Surgery. She went on to complete her MRCP (UK) as well as a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh).

In 1991, Dr de Bruyne joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Malaya, where her academic career brought together teaching, research, and patient care at the University Malaya Medical Centre.

Her focus within childhood respiratory medicine has grown to encompass asthma epidemiology, paediatric respiratory infections, and long-term respiratory care, areas in which she has become a leading voice.

She also serves in leadership positions across a range of professional societies and committees. These include her role as Honorary Treasurer of the Malaysian Thoracic Society, membership in Asia Pacific associations for paediatric allergy and respiratory medicine, and direct involvement in national programmes such as the HELP (Home Equipment Loan Programme) for children.

For families seeking care for a child, Dr de Bruyne brings the reassurance of training at a Western medical school, years spent managing both complex and general paediatric respiratory conditions, and ongoing participation in research and in the development of national policy and guidelines. Her wide-ranging expertise and strong reputation make her a highly trustworthy choice for children's respiratory care.
