At Island Hospital, Dr. Vijaya B Ramasamy practises as a consultant in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, a role built on thorough training and experience gained in the United Kingdom. His medical degree came from the University of Dundee in the UK, and he went on to earn a number of notable qualifications, among them Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London). His specialist training in Nephrology and Internal Medicine took place at the University Hospital of Wales and Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where he was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in both fields in the UK.

Prior to his return to Penang, Dr. Vijaya worked in the UK as a Consultant Nephrologist and Physician. There he held the position of Clinical Lead for acute kidney injury services for North Wales and served as the lead nephrologist for living donor kidney transplantation. Kidney transplantation, diabetic kidney disease, and the management of complex hypertension are among his areas of expertise. Having completed comprehensive training in the UK and holding specialist registration in both the UK and Malaysia, Dr. Vijaya offers patients care grounded in international standards. He also speaks English, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesia, and Tamil fluently, which helps him communicate clearly and comfortably with patients from a wide range of backgrounds.
