About

Prof. Dr. Ina Ismiarti Bt Sharifuddin practises as a Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist, with particular depth in paediatric anaesthesia and critical care. Her medical training began in Scotland, where she earned her MBChB at the University of Dundee, and continued with a Master in Anaesthesiology from the University of Malaya. She went on to fellowship training in paediatric anaesthesia at KK Women's & Children's Hospital, Singapore, and in paediatric liver transplantation at Renji Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. A further Master in Medical Education, completed with distinction, reflects her commitment to teaching.

Patient safety, advanced airway management, sustainable anaesthesia practices and perioperative patient blood management are areas she actively champions. Her leadership record spans the Malaysian College of Anaesthesiologists, the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists and the Malaysian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists, each of which she has served as President. She is President-Elect of the Asian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists and contributes internationally through the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists. When COVID-19 struck, she led the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at UMMC, combining clinical care with organisational direction.

Innovation and education remain central to her work: her efforts have earned awards for medical-education innovation along with two patents and a copyright in anaesthesia & critical care, and she serves as Chief Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Anaesthesiology. For patients, this translates into care from a doctor whose international training runs deep and whose dedication to safety, quality, continuous improvement and innovation shapes every part of her practice.
