At UM Specialist Centre, patients with breathing and sleep disorders are cared for by Professor Dr. Ernest Poh Mau Ern, a Consultant Respiratory Physician whose standing in respiratory and sleep medicine reaches well beyond Malaysia. His practice rests on training received in the United Kingdom, where he developed skills in critical care, transplant medicine and advanced respiratory procedures. Alongside that overseas grounding, he holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in London and a Fellowship of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) in the USA.

Professor Dr. Poh also serves as Head of the Respiratory Division at the University of Malaya, where his academic work keeps him closely engaged with new developments in his field. Lung cancer, COPD and bronchiectasis are among the conditions he treats, and he takes part in many international clinical research trials — an involvement that helps bring his patients the most advanced treatment options available.

His teaching has been recognised with the "Best Lecturer Award" from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya.
