Liver Disease Treatment in Malaysia

Comprehensive diagnosis and management of liver diseases including hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH), and liver cancer using antiviral therapy, interventional procedures, and surgery.

Overview

Liver disease encompasses a broad spectrum from viral hepatitis (B and C) to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD/NASH), autoimmune liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatitis C is now curable with direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy with >95% cure rates in 8-12 weeks. Hepatitis B can be effectively suppressed with antiviral therapy. Advanced liver disease (cirrhosis) is managed with monitoring and prevention of complications. HCC is treated with ablation, TACE (transarterial chemoembolisation), surgical resection, or transplantation depending on stage. Malaysia is a regional hub for hepatology due to high regional prevalence of hepatitis B.
