Minimally Invasive Cardiac Bypass (MICS CABG) in Malaysia

Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass restores blood flow to the heart through small incisions between the ribs instead of a full breastbone split, allowing a faster recovery.

Overview

Minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS CABG) is a coronary artery bypass performed through one or more small incisions between the ribs, avoiding the full breastbone split (sternotomy) used in conventional bypass surgery. Using specialised instruments, and in some centres robotic or endoscopic assistance, the surgeon grafts healthy vessels around blocked coronary arteries to restore blood flow to the heart muscle. Because the sternum is not divided, patients typically experience less pain, lower infection risk, reduced blood loss, smaller scars and a quicker return to normal activity. It is suitable for selected patients with single- or multi-vessel disease as assessed by the heart team.
