Radiation Therapy in Malaysia
Radiation therapy uses high-energy beams to destroy cancer cells. Modern techniques including IMRT, VMAT, and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT) deliver precise doses while minimising damage to surrounding tissues.
Overview
Radiation therapy is a cornerstone of cancer treatment used alone or in combination with surgery and chemotherapy. Modern techniques include Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), and stereotactic approaches (SRS for brain tumours, SBRT for body tumours). These deliver highly conformal radiation to the tumour while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Proton therapy is available at select centres. Treatment courses typically span 1-7 weeks of daily sessions.
