At UKM Kuala Lumpur, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ismail Sagap serves as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon. His work in surgical training across ASEAN has been pioneering, and he has authored many training manuals while leading outreach apprenticeship programs that teach advanced colorectal surgical skills. He is President of the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeon and sits on the council of several regional surgical bodies, making him a key figure in the advancement of surgical education and practice. In addition, he is the Medical Director of UKM Specialist Center and an examiner for international fellowship examinations.
