His path into medicine started in Ireland, where the National University of Ireland awarded him his primary medical degree and where he also completed his Basic Surgical Training. A desire to master more advanced operative techniques then took him to Europe, and in Strasbourg, France he earned a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery. He added to this a research fellowship in the United States, at the University of Milwaukee.

His focus on complicated colorectal disease is supported by a Master of Surgery from the University of Malaya, followed by subspecialty training in Advanced Colorectal and Peritoneal Malignancy in Singapore, undertaken at both the National Cancer Centre and Singapore General Hospital. Dr. Rezal's practice centres on advanced therapies for stage four colorectal cancer, among them Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) combined with Hyperthermic Intraoperative Chemotherapy (HIPEC), as well as Pressurized IntraPeritoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC).
