At KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital, Dr. Ramu Palaniappan practises as a General Surgeon with a strong focus on advanced laparoscopic techniques. In 2006 he became the first surgeon in Kota Kinabalu to carry out Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia repair, and following a fellowship in Vietnam he went on to broaden the colorectal laparoscopic services available to patients. His surgical scope covers complex laparoscopic procedures for hernias, gall bladder, colon, stomach conditions, and weight loss surgery, alongside diagnostic and therapeutic gastro-intestinal endoscopies. Beyond the operating theatre, he contributes to medical education as a lecturer and examiner at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
