About
Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), or the National Heart Institute, is Malaysia's premier and largest dedicated cardiovascular and thoracic hospital, established on 1st August 1992. Located on Jalan Tun Razak in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, IJN was founded as a public-private partnership under the Ministry of Health Malaysia to provide world-class cardiac care to all Malaysians, particularly for those who could not previously afford overseas treatment. Since its founding, IJN has treated over 3.7 million patients and is recognised as one of the leading cardiovascular and thoracic centres in the Asia-Pacific region for both adult and paediatric heart patients. IJN holds JCI (Joint Commission International) Gold Seal accreditation and, in March 2026, became the first hospital in Malaysia to achieve HIMSS EMRAM (Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model) Stage 7 — the highest international benchmark for digital health and electronic medical record maturity. IJN offers four Centres of Excellence: Cardiology (including a dedicated Heart Failure CoE), Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Cardiology (including a Ventricular Septal Defect CoE), and Diagnostic Imaging. Additional services include a Health Screening Centre, Specialty Clinics, Support Services, and IJN Home Care Services. The IJN Group comprises IJN Hospital, PCHC (Preventive Cardiology & Health Centre), IJN First Pharmacy, IJN University College, and IJN Foundation. IJN also operates an advanced clinical research programme including industry-sponsored, investigator-initiated, and collaboration research, with a fully constituted Research Ethics Committee.
