About Hysterectomy
Hysterectomy is surgery to remove the uterus (womb). Depending on the condition, the cervix, fallopian tubes or ovaries may also be removed. It is used to treat conditions such as fibroids, heavy menstrual bleeding that does not respond to other treatment, endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine prolapse and some cancers of the uterus, cervix or ovaries. It can be done by keyhole (laparoscopic or robotic) surgery, through the vagina, or by open abdominal surgery. After a hysterectomy you no longer have periods and cannot become pregnant.
