About Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
IUI is a simple, low-risk fertility treatment suitable for couples with mild male factor infertility, unexplained infertility, or cervical mucus problems. The female partner may take oral ovulation stimulants or low-dose injectable gonadotrophins to ensure one or two follicles develop. On the day of insemination, the partner's semen is processed to concentrate motile sperm, which are then injected directly into the uterus via a thin catheter. The procedure takes only a few minutes. Success rates per cycle are 10-20%, so multiple cycles are often needed.
