Tonsillectomy in Malaysia

Overview

Tonsillectomy is surgery to remove the tonsils, the two pads of tissue at the back of the throat. It is most often recommended for repeated or severe tonsillitis, and for enlarged tonsils that cause snoring or pauses in breathing during sleep (obstructive sleep apnoea), especially in children. It may also be advised after an abscess next to the tonsil (quinsy) or when a tonsil looks abnormal. The adenoids are sometimes removed at the same time (adenotonsillectomy).
