Patient reviews
I had a very disappointing experience under Dr Ravi Apparaw during my recent admission. Despite arriving with a clear referral letter showing pneumonia and asthma attack findings from X-ray and blood test results, my condition was initially dismissed as being caused by “stress” simply because I was still able to speak fluently, even though I had just received nebulizer treatment moments earlier. Throughout my stay, the doctor repeatedly insisted that I “did not know how to breathe properly” and kept scolding me to breathe according to his method, rather than addressing the fact that I was actively struggling with asthma symptoms and severe throat irritation. Instead of taking my breathing difficulties seriously, I was repeatedly told to just eat 'Mentos' candy, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. What made this even more frustrating was that during the night, I suffered multiple asthma attacks severe enough for the nurses to administer emergency nebulizer treatment several times. Yet during the ward review, the focus was still on “teaching” me how to breathe rather than acknowledging the seriousness of my condition. I was also shocked by the doctor’s rude response regarding my insurance issue. When I explained that the delay happened because it was the weekend and the office was closed, his response was, “Then that’s not my problem.” This level of empathy and professionalism is unacceptable in healthcare. Overall, the communication, attitude, and lack of compassion made this an extremely unpleasant experience. As a paying patient, I expected proper care and respectful treatment, not to feel dismissed and mocked during a vulnerable medical situation. Unfortunately, this experience has made me lose confidence in returning to this hospital.

My girlfriend was admitted for severe bronchitis on 26th January 2026 and was assigned Dr. Ravi Apparaw as her admitting doctor. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply upsetting and unprofessional. During his first visit, while I was present, Dr. Apparaw attempted to “teach” breathing techniques to manage her wheezing. However, his approach was rude and condescending, repeatedly stating that her breathing was “wrong” and telling her not to breathe “through her throat,” despite her breathing being no different from any other person struggling with bronchitis. His tone lacked empathy and basic bedside manner. More concerning was his explanation of her condition. He claimed that her bronchitis was caused by spitting out phlegm and advised her to swallow it instead. This directly contradicts common medical advice we have been taught since young and left us shocked and confused. It seriously made us question his judgment and professionalism. While he appeared more courteous when I was present, my girlfriend later informed me that during a subsequent visit, when she was alone, his behavior worsened significantly. She reported that he spoke to her in an insulting and dismissive manner, made inappropriate remarks about her work stress, and even suggested that she should quit her job. This was completely out of line and not his place. Worst of all, he insinuated that she might be exaggerating or feigning her illness. For a patient already vulnerable and hospitalized, this was incredibly distressing. A doctor should make patients feel safe, heard, and supported, not intimidated or invalidated. Instead, my girlfriend felt insecure and afraid to be under his care. Based on this experience, Dr. Ravi Apparaw demonstrated a serious lack of empathy, professionalism, and respect toward patients. This experience has left us extremely disappointed, and I sincerely hope Pantai Hospital Cheras addresses this matter. From what I understand, we are not the only ones who have raised concerns, which suggests this may be a repeating issue with this particular doctor. If i would have the option to give 0 star, i definitely would.
