About Hernia Repair
Hernia repair is surgery to return tissue that has pushed through a weak spot in the abdominal wall back into place and to strengthen that area, usually with a synthetic mesh. The most common types are inguinal (groin), umbilical (around the belly button) and incisional (at the scar of a previous operation) hernias. Most hernias are repaired by keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery through small incisions, or by open surgery through one larger incision.
